The Importance for Atlanta

Census affects funding in our communities.  Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to state and local governments based on census data, and Atlanta needs to be counted.  So I urge everyone to take the Census very serious because it is used by government leaders to guide planning decisions on where to build new roads, hospitals, child-care and senior citizen centers, schools and more.

Spending just a few minutes to fill out your census form will help ensure that our communities get its fair share of federal and state funding.

The Census affects your representation in state and local governments.  Census data are used to define legislature districts, school district assignment areas and other important functional areas of government.

The Census also affects your voice in Congress.  Mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the census is also used to apportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and to redistrict state legislatures.
